The Missouri Review holds two annual contests, the Jeffrey E. Smith Editors' Prize in Fiction, Essay and Poetry, and our recently instituted Audio Competition.
Now in its 18th year, the Jeffrey E. Smith Editors' Prize awards over $9000 annually in Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction. But that's not all: winners are featured in the spring issue of The Missouri Review and flown to Columbia (MO!) for a gala reading and reception. The Missouri Review invites all writers and writers/producers to participate in our second ever Audio & Video Competition. We have audio categories suitable for all kinds of writers, including Narrative Essay, Documentary, as well asVoice-Only Literature categories for Fiction, Poetry, and Creative Nonfiction. And this year we are introducing a new Video category! The 2008 submission period is now open. The postmark deadline is September 15, 2008. Full guidelines are available here.
